My Graphic Works - 3D Modeling (MS) - RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type.

RX-79(G) GUNDAM GROUND TYPE
(Click the image to enlarge)

RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type
A limited 20 units of RX-79(G) release into the battlefield for field testing, mainly design for ground battle. The most significant difference from this MS to the RX-78 Gundam is the backpack and the chest, the backpack is a weapon rack system for storing weapons and equipment, it can also mount a parachute backpack for airborne deployment.

The generator of the Ground Type is smaller than the normal Gundam, hence smaller generator output, I think this is why they could fit in the weapon systems on the left chest. The choice of the weapon this Gundam could use is plentiful, Sub Machine Gun, Beam rifle, Cannon, Bazooka, Missile Launcher... (Ground Type is the lucky one)

Technically this MS is the soldier/paratrooper of the Gundams, fight in the forest, in the river, in harsh conditions... (awesome)

Prologue
I decided to model the Gundam Ground Type after the review of the Micro Wars 2, part of it because of the Micro Wars sets, but the main reason is because I really like the war zone kind of feel, this MS is fulfilling my desire. The 08th MS Team series is one of my favorite Gundam series thorough the years, I've got the old HG series RX-79(G) and Zaku II sets(first 08th Team model kits), Master grade RX-79(G) and Ez8 model kits, those are my favorite kits, I always play with them (joints are loose now, poor little guy...).

For the modeling, I didn't use them as an example to make the 3D model, all I do is searching the concept arts on the web, think back how they look when the time I am playing the kits (I don't have the model kits with me anyway). I change a bit some of the original design, modified, blend with some of the concept arts, this is how it looks now. Why the chest is looking that right now, because I was thinking of how it will look if the chest is not box-like design, and it looks like the original RX-78 Gundam style, the slanted-in style, this will make the Ground Type looks a lot different.

I am having a good time modeling this Gundam, a lot of accessories to make, variations, and it is the protagonist MS (ha). Still a lot to go on this 3D model, will do tactical gears for the Gundam, and GM Ground Type, Ez8, Sniper... I even made a space type version! (my own design)

Enjoy the pics!

Gundam Ground Type in 360 GIF.

Front view of the Gundam.

Most of the joint I am doing, I am using a model kit style, because doing mechanical joint will be impractical for animated the 3D model.

Side view of the model.

45 degrees angle view from rear.

The back.

Close up on the model. The most different things on the model I made, is the chest section, the original Gundam Ground Type is a box-like shape chest, I made it more like the traditional Gundam chest, which is the air went is 45 degrees slanted down into the ribs, it looks more compact now.

Close up on the back of the model. I change the style of the backpack rack, making it look better, more details, the original one is quite simple.

Dorsal view of the Gundam Ground Type.

The view from the bottom.

I made the thigh a little chunky then before, the legs is not much different from the original one, just a bit adjustment.

I use the style from the concept art to do the back of the thigh.

The extended backpack rack, not much different from the original, just more details on the rack.

The standard SMG for the Gundam, my most favorite weapon for the Ground Type.

I made this SMG years ago when modeling the GM, I did some modifications to the old model before and now I changed it to the standard version 100MM Machine Gun.

With the Gundam holding the machine gun.

The low down version of the original Gundam beam rifle.

This rifle is totally new and builds from zero.

With the 79(G) holding the beam rifle.

The six missiles launcher pod.

I already build the pod from the previous 3D model, the Guntank Onslaught (click HERE for this builds). All I need to do is clone the pod and put it in the right position, and made the middle parts (the handle and the sensor unit), easy build.

With the Ground Type holding the launcher.

The heavy artillery for the 08th team, 180 mm cannon.

The huge gun that destroy many Zeon mobile suits, this is my second most favorite weapon of Gundam Ground Type.

And I did made it detachable like in the anime series, I use the original draft art as base to build.

Ground Type holding the cannon. (with the container as cover, half cover)

The weapon container box that store the 180 mm Cannon.

The back of the box.

The interior of the container.

This is how the cannon fits into the box.

The standard shield use by the 79(G), smaller in sizes, more compact to use. Mainly use for cover the critical area of the MS.

The back of the shield.

The shield is extendable, it uses as a close combat weapon when needed.

This support frame is for standing up the small shield, that the 180 mm cannon can use it as supports.

Beam saber is also the standard weapon on 79(G).

The model have no problems kneeling down.

The three unit Gundam Ground Type in the anime are pretty much identical, except for Karen's 79(G) head is destroyed in the later parts of the series, I did make the GM Ground Type head for Karen's 79(G).

RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type are ready for deployment, "Shiro Amada, ready to take off!"

Bandai Mobile Suit Gundam Micro Wars 2.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM MICRO WARS 2
(Click the image to enlarge)

Click below video link to watch the Open Box, Assembles and Review video.

The top side(lid) of the box. This is actually a candy toy sets, each box contains a Mobile Suit (or vehicle) toys.

There are 5 types of candy toys, two boxes for each type, a total of 10 small candy box in one big box.

Type no. 1, the RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type, the box written 'Ground Battle Type Gundam'.

The back of the box shows the cockpit function and other types of toys in this series.

Box no. 1 contained the main figure, arms for the figure (in plastic runner, uncut), one small forearm shield, one sub-machine gun, and dry transfer decals.

360 GIF of the SD size Gundam Ground Type.

Head height of the figure is around two and a half-inch.

Close up on the figure. Head sculpting is very nice, and so as the torso, very nice sculpted details for SD size figure. And the upper body of the figure is well painted too, except for the grayish-white color.

The backpack is simply in original plastic color, not painted, it is actually the hinge joint for the cockpit system.

The legs are well sculpted, feet are not painted, there are stickers(decals) for covering the feet(red area), but I hate how the stickers do after a long period, so, I painted the feet in red paint.

The back of the legs is hollowed, some of the people will not accept this kind of things, but this is a candy toy, what could you do? (my paint job is crappy...)

I also painted the bottom of the feet, not much detail, but it looks way better with the red paint.

The selling point of this Micro Wars series is this cockpit system, the chest can be open to putting a small figure in.

Really rare to see cockpit thing of robot toys, especially on SD size. (this micro-size figure is not included in this box)

There are sculpted details in the cockpit too.

The Ground Type Gundam compare with the micro-figure.

Most of the joints on the figure are ball joint, there are neck, shoulders, biceps, wrists, hips, and ankles, but joints on the arm can only swivel. The figures in this series, the joints are all the same, not much different on each figure.

Submachine gun, it is the gray-ish white plastic painted with gunmetal paint, look really nice.

The lower part of the shield is painted, the numbers '08' is a sticker you need to apply on the shield.

Box no. 2, the RGM-79 GM, box written 'GM'(JIM).

The back of box no. 2.

Box no. 2 contained the main figure of GM, arms on the plastic runner, EFSF shield, shield handle, spray gun and dry decals.

360 GIF of RGM-79 GM.

Gm without shield and weapon.

Close up on GM. The painted eye look so nice, it is metallic paint. The detailed design of the GM looks different, doesn't it come from where or which type, but it looks really good.

The backpack looks really nice, but sadly the beam saber is not separated, and the shield can be stored on the backpack by the peg hole.

The feet are painted by me, the whole leg sculpting looks really good. Just... Not everybody likes the plastic gray-ish white color.

Yeah, the back of the legs is hollowed, same as the other figures in this Micro Wars series.

The bottom of the feet is also painted with red, but this GM got more sculpted details than the Ground Type.

Same as Ground Type, the cockpit can be open.

GM's pilot is the yellow space suit pilot that comes from the Hover Truck box.

Same as Ground Type, the cockpit is sculpted with details.

GM compare with the yellow suit pilot.

The pray gun and shield looks really good, they are gray-ish white plastic painted with colors.

Come to box no. 3, the M353A4 Hover Truck (tank). The main vehicle that appears in "MSG: The 08th MS Team". The box is written 'Hover Truck and Earth Federation Army Pilots'

The back of the box.

The long plastic bags contain the main vehicle, back nail parts, Gatling gun turret, two hover truck crews, and one spacesuit pilot.

What this box contained, one truck, two truck crews, and the GM pilot. (assembled)

Hover Truck in 360 GIF. (I prefer it calls hover command tank)

The top of the tank. There are many sculpted details on the tank.

The bottom of the tank. There are sculpted details under the tank too.

The whole front end of the tank can be open, it is spacious for those micro figures.

Let's check out the micro figures. The yellow MS pilot is full of small details, helmet crest, suits details, etc.

Side. The whole figure is in yellow color soft plastic, the only visor is painted, the rest is not painted.

The back is sculpted with minor details too.

The limbs are all articulated, shoulder swing forward 360 degrees, can be wing out a little bit, elbow joint can fold 90 degrees (both way, scary...), hips joint can swing out a bit, it can swing forward-backward 90 degrees angle, the knee joint can fold 90 degrees.

The Hover Truck crew (or use as Gundam Ground Type pilot). It is sculpted with full soldiers uniform details with hats on(I forgot that's a hat or helmet...?), the face is painted in flesh color.

Side of the figure.

Back of the figure.

The articulations work the same as the yellow MS pilot, it is well articulated for an action figure that small.

The height of This micro-figure only stands around one and a quarter-inch high, this is how small they are.

Back to the tank. The tank can actually fit in two micro-figure in the cockpit.

And the middle of the turret is hollowed that allowed the tank crew to fit in, this is really fun to play with.

The turret can swivel around except there is a censor piece blocking the way in this angle.

This is how it looks under the turret, hahaha.

Compare the micro figure's size with the Headmaster. They are nearly the same scale, or same scale(because sometimes the Headmaster is an armor).

The micro-figure can be played with Scout class vehicle. (I think they are thinking to buy the car...)

The Earth Federation Force is ready to battle!

Next, box no. 4, the MS-07B Gouf. Box wrote 'Gouf'.

The back of the box no. 4.

The long plastic contained the Gouf main figure, arm parts, shield, the heat sword, shield attachment parts, and the dry decals.

Gouf in 360 GIF.

Gouf without the sword and shield.

The head unit looks almost like the 1/100 scale Gouf, almost hard to tell it is SD size from long distance, seems the Gouf looks no different whether it is normal scale or SD scale.

The back MS-07B Gouf.

Shrink down Gouf legs looks nice, the black color on the knee is pre-painted, you only need to paint the feet in black.

Same as other MW2 figures, the back of the legs is hollowed.

The bottom of the legs is painted, not many sculpted details.

The cockpit door is a little bit smaller than the other figure in this series.

The Gouf is piloted by Rambal Ral, the figure is bigger than the normal micro figure, I think this figure is Rambal Ral.

The cockpit looks a little bit narrow than other figures, but the control panel look very details.

The micro-figure stand beside Gouf.

The heat sword looks really nice, the metallic paint looks really cool.

The left arm is different from the right arm, the shield pegged on the forearm, the hand is machine gun fingers.

Really nice Gouf shield.

Gouf 'skull cap' is removable, because the mono eye is adjustable.

With the adjustable mono eye, he looks more fierce. Gundam Ground Type and Gouf are my favorite box in this series.

Last box, no. 5, the Zeon Cui tank. Box wrote 'CUI and Zeon Army Pilots'.

The back of the box.

This box contained the main body of the tank, the side threads parts, the two gun barrels, two Zeonic soldiers and one MS pilot.

The CUI tank, the tank crews, and the pilot.

CUI tank in 360 GIF.

The back of the tank is full of details.

The tank gun is adjustable. (in my video, the anti-roll bar is in the wrong way)

To put the micro figure in the tank, the anti-roll bar has to be removed.

How the cockpit look.

This is how the micro figure looks in the tank, tank control is sculpted in the cockpit.

There is a hidden gimmick for the CUI tank, but you will need two CUI tank to do the hidden gimmick, the needed parts are are the side armor panels.

Using the armor panels, the tank can extend its side threads longer. What is this for? It is used as an armor panel for protecting army personnel in the battlefield, and soldiers can shoot their weapon from the gap between the armor panel.

The left out parts can be combined into this form. This look like a robot from those old movies...

The micro-figure in this box sets. This is supposed to be Rambal Ral, because of the design of the helmet and the 'wide' body.

Side of this micro-figure.

Back.

Zeon soldier with weird helmet, what kind of fashion is this? Until now, I still can't accept the design, nooooo~~~!! (hahaha, overreacting)

The side of the figure.

The back.

"Gundam is on the battlefield, let's hunt!"

Mobile Suit Gundam Micro Wars 2 one completed sets. (total of two sets)

No. 1 Gundam Ground Type, No. 2 GM, No. 3 Hover Truck, No. 4 Gouf, No. 5 CUI.

(without the box)

BONUS

MSG Micro Wars (1) MS-06 Zaku II and Magella Attack Tank.

Same as Zaku II, Gouf is using the same method for adjusting the mono eye, removing the skull cap.

The back of the Zaku II figure. The backpack thrusters, the elbow 'pad' and the feet are painted by me.

I am using the red micro-figure for this Zaku II 'S', this figure is supposed to be in the '3 times faster' Zaku II S, but I use on this Zaku II.

Weapon for this MW1 Zaku II, machine gun and heat hawk axe.

Magella Attack Tank, very nice tank to get, well-sculpted and well-painted mold.

The cockpit can be open to reveal the pilot, the turret can swivel to a certain angle, tank gun can move up and down, even the machine gun on the lower tank body can move left or right.

Just like in the O.Y.W. anime, the tank turret is removable and become a jet fighter with a tank gun. And this is how the pilot gets into the tank.

There are two handles behind the tank turret, that is for Zaku II to hold it, like in the anime.

The hidden feature for this tank is, Zaku II can combine with the lower tank to become the Zaku Tank.

You will need one more Zaku II to make the Zaku Tank fully complete because the shoulder of Zaku Tank needs two shield shoulder. (I got more than two Zaku II)

This hidden feature is awesome, this is why Magella Attack tank is a 'must get' item.

The three micro-figure in this Magella tank sets, two normal MS pilots and one Char Aznable figure.

The back of the MS pilot. (the red one is same on the back)

The normal Zeon pilot compare to Rambal Ral figure, Rambal Ral figure is obviously thicker than the normal one, and the helmet is different too.

The back is the same, only the size of the torso is different.

"What!? You really think your pea shooter can defeat me!?" Zaku II.

"Not so fast, Zeon scum!" an RX-79G come out from nowhere and stop the Zaku, "What!? This is a trap...!?" Zaku II was shocked.

"Go down, you green cyclops!" Ground Type finished Zaku II with a heavy kick.

"Finally, Gundam!" the small MS team encounters the blue MS, he is waiting to ambush the team.

"Prepare to be destroyed, Gundam---!!" Gouf shout, "We need to retreat, this guy is so strong!" Ground Type doesn't want to fight Gouf.

"You can't run, Gundam!" apparently, Gouf has his man surrounded the area.

GM was attacked by the Zaku II S!

Gundam Ground Type is surrounded by enemies!

"We are outnumbered, Sir!" they managed to destroy few enemies, but still outnumbered!

"Reinforcement has arrived---!", "We come to help!", luckily the other team has come support.

"OPEN FIRE---!!" they return fire towards the Zeon army.

"Retreat! Retreat--!!" Gouf yells to this teammates.

At last, the small MS team is safe. "Thanks for your help, Karen!", "No problem, Shiro!".
